Oh Olive...You Shouldn't Have

I have lived in the same area for, all but three, of my 36 years. Our community is like any other. There are the lovely...and the not so lovely parts. All through my growing up years....well, my getting older years...I am still growing up- thank heavens....I would drive down my favorite street in town and wonder what it would be like to live there. Don't get me wrong, I grew up in a lovely, middle class home in a lovely middle class neighborhood. There was just something different about the street I loved. It was lined with towering pecan trees that made a canopy over the street. The houses were beautifully painted and surrounded by perfectly manicured lawns....All the houses except for ONE. This house had at one time been lovely, but it seemed to have been forgotten by the years. "Why doesn't someone do something with that house?" I often thought to myself.

Fast forward a couple of decades.....

We were in the market for a new place. Our sweet 1300 square foot cottage-bought before the birth of our 2 sweet daughters- was closing in on us. We bought this little treasure for pennies and fixed it up. It wasn't our intention to flip it, but the Lord had other ideas. So, there we were with our cottage on the market and in search of new digs. We looked a house after house after house. None seemed to fit...

let me rewind a bit. Our lil' cottage had not always been so sweet. In fact, it was a disaster! It had previously been inhabited by a sweet old man who had secluded himself to one bedroom, the bathroom and the kitchen. The rest of the house had not been touched in a least 25 years. Not so much as a vacuum on the pea soup colored sculptured carpet. But I have been blessed with the knack to see potential when others can't and with a husband who's handyman talent surpasses anything I've seen on HGTV...and he's Cute too!

Okay, now back to the story.....as we stood in the front yard of yet another so-so house our real estate agent joked about a house she had just listed....a "real fixer upper" she said..as the knudged us with her elbow. Of course, I perked up...I mean I am nothing if not a fixer of fixer uppers! She stated the address and laughed. It was on our way home....what does it hurt to drive by? As we began driving I thought to myself...I have always loved this street......before I could catch my breath, there we sat in front of the ONE....the house that had been forgotten by the years....are you kidding me? This was the fixer upper? I was in love.....and OBSESSED!

Oh Olive the blog- is dedicated to my home and its habitants....the good, bad and the ugly...and believe me, there has been some ugly and smelly. Maybe you can pick up some tips along the way....maybe nobody will ever read this blog....we will see!!!

Our journey is not nearly over...stop by every once in a while and see what we've been up to!

Happy New Blog....

Happy New Year!! Okay, here we go with a New Year and a New Blog! I have been an avid "blog stalker" for over a year and now I am joining the ranks. Eeeppp! Am I up to it? Will I just blog for a month or two and then get distracted or bored? I won't.....I don't think...I hope not! We will have to see. Maybe I will learn something by keeping a blog...Maybe you will learn something from stopping by. I write like I speak...I am not illiterate....I just really like punctuation. Oh goodness. This is going to be interesting. Thanks for joining me...see you soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!
